Format: Submissions will be accepted online only in Windows Media (.wmv) or Quicktime (.mov) digital formats. You'll be able to post submissions on this site until July 31, 2006 (other rounds of submissions will follow). Sign up for email updates in order to receive a notice when you can post more video in addition to more detailed instructions about how to do that.
Respect for Existing Copyright: By submitting your video you are declaring that you are either the original author of everything in your video or have permission to use copyright-protected material. So while we want you to be creative, you need to be careful about what you put into the video. If you're thinking about using existing music, video clips, photos or the like, odds are that someone else owns a copyright to that material and you will need to get the copyright owner's permission before using it in your video.
Consent from People in Your Video: By submitting your video you are declaring that you have consent from anyone appearing in your video. Note that consent requirements may vary from state to state. You can download sample release forms (.doc) that might be useful, though we cannot warrant their validity in any particular jurisdiction.
ALL SUBMITTED ENTRIES MUST BE LICENSED PURSUANT TO THE CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSE CHOSEN BY THE ENTRANT. MUST BE A U. S. CITIZEN OR U. S. RESIDENT ALIEN AND OVER 14 YEARS OLD TO ENTER. Participation constitutes entrant's full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Guidelines.
(1) Eligibility: By submitting your video you represent and warrant that (a) all registration information you submit is truthful and accurate; (b) you will maintain the accuracy of such information; (c) you are 14 years of age or older; and (d) your use of the Services does not violate any applicable law or regulation. Your video may be deleted without warning if we believe that you are under 14 years of age.
(2) How to Submit your Video: Share your thoughts with the world on our site. How would you define "American"? How would your family and friends? What about people in your hometown? Is there something you want to say to people all over the world about your vision for America? Create your own video to bring current issues and important topics to the eyes and ears of your fellow Americans. Videos can be submitted anytime between June 23rd and November 7th(other rounds of submissions will follow) by accessing our "How We See Us" Web page. You must complete and submit the Entry Form, accept the terms and conditions and post your entry online or submit it by mail. Designate how you would like your attribution to appear with your posted entry (for example, "Mary Smith, Chicago, IL," "M. Smith, Chicago, IL" or "Mary S., Chicago, IL"). Entries may be any form of moving image, including but not limited to: video, animation, text and audio in either Windows Media (.wmv) or Quicktime (.mov) online formats. Duration of entry cannot exceed 3 minutes. Both audio/visual and visual-only entries are permitted. Entrant must be the sole author and copyright owner of entry, or entrant must have permission (via license or otherwise) to use or incorporate those entry portions authored or owned by third parties. Use of images, music, and other works in the public domain may be incorporated into entries. However, materials that infringe on the rights of any third party may not be used. AmDoc is not responsible for late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, illegible or unintelligible entries. Incomplete or illegible entries are not eligible. All entries must be licensed under the Creative Commons License chosen by the Entrant. A link to this license agreement, as well as the required Entry Form, will be available on the P.O.V.'s Borders website. You must accept the terms of this license before you complete your entry. In addition, entrant must grant to AmDoc, its affiliates, subsidiaries and assigns a nonexclusive perpetual license to copy, reproduce, display, or distribute the entry in any and all media throughout the world, whether now known or hereafter devised, and to make derivative works based upon the entry or a substantial portion of the entry without attribution or prior permission.
(3) Selected Entries: The favorite entries, or derivative work of said entry, will be featured on the P.O.V.'s Borders | American ID website, and may be featured in other media at any time at AmDoc's sole discretion.
(4) (i) General Terms and Conditions: By participating, entrants agree that AmDoc and/or the Public Broadcasting Service ("PBS"), their shareholders, agents and representatives, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies and legal advisors are not responsible or liable for, and shall be released and held harmless from: (i) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind; (ii) any condition caused by events beyond the control of AmDoc that may cause the Call for Entries to be disrupted or corrupted; (iii) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with this Call for Entries; (iv) any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with or resulting from participation in the Call for Entries, including without limitation, claims based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy. AmDoc reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend or cancel Call for Entries at any time if a computer virus, bug or other technical problem corrupts the administration, security or proper conduct of the Call for Entries, or for any reason in AmDoc's sole discretion. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these terms and conditions, or the rights and obligations of participant and AmDoc in connection with the Call for Entries, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions (whether of the State of New York or any other jurisdiction), that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of New York.
(4) (ii) Indemnity: You agree to indemnify and hold AmDoc, its subsidiaries and affiliates, and their respective officers, agents, partners and employees, harmless from any loss, liability, claim or demand, including reasonable attorney's fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of your submission of a video in violation of this Agreement and/or arising from a breach or alleged of this Agreement and/or any breach of your representations and warranties set forth above and/or if any video that you submit to AmDoc causes AmDoc to be liable to another.
(5) See PBS.org's Privacy Policy regarding use of all material entered and/or submitted for this Call For Entries or otherwise collected by this site, except as otherwise provided in these Official Rules.
